Songs for Smokey will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at The Hollow Bar + Kitchen, located at 79 N Pearl St, Albany, NY. The benefit is a tribute to a friend, Zachary “Smokey” Tyler Warner, who left this world 10 years ago. It will constitute an additional chapter in the band’s legacy, performing annually the week of Thanksgiving.

The first of The LateShift’s annual performances took place in 2013 and served as a fundraiser which led to the creation of a scholarship through North Colonie Friends of Music. The Zachary Warner Scholarship, unlike many others, is not exclusively awarded to a top academic achiever but is given to a music student who shows true kindness and compassion. The previously raised funds lasted for a notable 10 years. This event intends to provide another decade of support to a group of special music students.

Zach was an animated and earnest individual. He was unconventional and often unintentionally a spark to those around him. His relationship with The LateShift was nothing short of family. There existed a brotherhood that, even ten years after his passing, will never be forgotten.

The LateShift released their last record, “Forks and Knives” in 2016 and decided to disband in 2021. For this special event the band will be returning with two sets of music. The first will be a celebration of the group's 15-year catalog. It will serve as a greatest hits set, including the fan favorite song “Drink and Stone” which was co-written by Zach. This will be followed by a power packed second set, loaded with everyone’s favorite party tunes. The celebratory night is expected to provide many musical surprises and even some special guest appearances.
